Plans for Galley Common Children’s Care Home

Plans for Galley Common Children’s Care Home

You’re probably aware of the proposals to build four care homes in Galley Common on land off Plough Hill Road/Waggstaff Drive.

I’ve been contacted by several residents this week concerned about the plans, mainly because the application includes a secure hospital on the site and some have raised concerns about traffic issues.

The use classification of the hospital, C2A, is for secure accommodation and covers a wide range of uses. This class is for a provision of secure residential accommodation, including use as a prison, young offenders institution, detention centre, secure training centre, custody centre, short term holding centre, secure hospital, secure local authority accommodation or use as a military barracks.

You can find out more about use classes on the Planning Portal website at

I have been speaking with the applicants and am due to meet them shortly to go over your concerns and find out more about who will live on this site and what they can do to address your concerns.

I’m also trying to find a similar facility either in Warwickshire or nearby that I can visit in the next few weeks to see first-hand how these facilities are managed, how they deal with issues and how neighbours in the area are affected.

Plans for Children's Care Home in Galley Common

All residents have been invited to attend an open evening at the site from 6pm – 8pm on the 26th April to meet the applicants and discuss your issues.

Due to the number of emails and messages I have received and from the social media comments I’m sure this application will be referred to NBBC’s planning committee. If so, I’ll try to publish the date as early as possible so residents can attend and speak on the application before Councillors vote on it.

You can see the planning application and make your comments by searching for application 035522 on the NBBC Planning Portal at

If you’re unable to come along to the open evening but have specific questions you’d like answered please feel free to contact me and I will pass them on.
